Job Purpose

The Counselling & Psychological Services (CAPS) department at LUMS is seeking a dedicated Emergency Counsellor (Night Shift) to join our team. This role is designed for professionals who are passionate about crisis intervention, psychological first aid, and supporting mental health within a university setting. The Emergency Counsellor will provide immediate, on-site support to students in distress, ensuring timely interventions and contributing to the overall well-being of the LUMS community.

Job Description
  • Respond promptly to emergency calls and provide immediate crisis support.

  • Carry out risk assessments and develop safety plans for individuals in crisis.

  • Offer short-term counselling and coping strategies to help stabilise non-critical cases.

  • Liaise with internal departments and external mental health services to ensure effective referrals and follow-up care.

  • Maintain accurate, detailed, and confidential case notes and records of interventions.

  • Contribute to CAPS awareness initiatives, induction sessions, and support groups as part of wider community engagement.

Required Skills
  • Sound knowledge of crisis management and psychological first aid.
  • Ability to remain calm, empathetic, and solution-focused under pressure.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • Possesses strong problem-solving skills with the ability to respond promptly in emergencies.

Qualification
  • At least a Master’s degree in ClinicalPsychology, Counselling, or a related field.
Experience
  • At least 1–2 years of professional experience, preferably in clinical counselling, crisis intervention, or related mental health services.
