Position Overview

The DEI Specialist supports the development of an inclusive and equitable university environment by working with students, faculty, staff, and University leadership to promote awareness, strengthen institutional capacity, support preventive education, and contribute to the implementation of policies and initiatives related to diversity, equity, inclusion, and gender-responsive practices. The role also supports evidence-based decision-making through research, data analysis, and monitoring of DEI-related trends and outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

Sexual Harassment Inquiry Committee (SHIC) Support:

  • Serve as the first point of contact for individuals seeking to report or discuss concerns related to sexual harassment and policy violations. 
  • Provide secretariat and administrative support to the Sexual Harassment Inquiry Committee, including case documentation, scheduling, correspondence, and follow-up. 
  • Support the Committee in the inquiry and documentation of cases in accordance with applicable policies and procedures. 
  • Maintain confidential records and documentation related to SHIC proceedings. 
  • Support the review and proposed amendments of the University's Sexual Harassment Policy and related procedures. 
  • Coordinate with relevant University stakeholders on matters arising from SHIC proceedings, as appropriate.

Education and Training:

  • Design and deliver sensitisation training programmes for the LUMS community members at all levels. 
  • Develop educational resources, online learning modules, and awareness materials to support DEI-related learning. 
  • Foster a culture of continuous learning and awareness regarding diversity, equity and inclusion issues, especially in gender-related matters. 

Community Engagement:

  • Plan and support events, workshops, forums, and campaigns that promote an inclusive and respectful University environment. 
  • Engage with students, faculty, staff, and relevant stakeholders to understand DEI-related concerns and promote awareness. 
  • Support initiatives that encourage meaningful participation and inclusion of diverse members of the University community.

Data, Research and Reporting :

  • Collect, analyse, and maintain DEI-related data to identify trends, gaps, and areas for improvement. 
  • Assess, monitor, and improve the overall gender climate at LUMS through data-driven evaluations and the application of global best practices. 
  • Prepare regular reports on SHIC’s performance.  

Policy, Compliance & Institutional Initiatives :

  • Support the review and development of policies, procedures, and guidelines to promote gender equity, inclusion, and non-discrimination.
  • Monitor developments in Pakistani legislation, Higher Education Commission (HEC) policies, and international best practices relevant to gender and inclusion.

 

Knowledge & Skills
  • Strong knowledge of DEI principles, relevant laws, and best practices.
  • Strong understanding of intersectionality and sexual harassment prevention.
  • Nuanced understanding of AI tools and their appropriate and responsible use.
  • Understanding the core functions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Understanding of qualitative and quantitative research concepts and techniques.
  • Proficiency in English and Urdu communication.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Social Sciences, Gender Studies, Sociology, Psychology, Education, or a related discipline from an HEC-recognized institution.

Experience
  • At least 03 years of professional experience in DEI, gender and inclusion, student affairs, social research, safeguarding, policy implementation, training, community engagement, or a related field.
  • Experience in a higher education or institutional environment will be an advantage.
