Position Overview

The Lifeguard is responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of all users at the University’s swimming pool facility through continuous supervision, enforcement of safety protocols, and timely emergency response. The role also supports the effective operation and maintenance of the facility in line with University standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise the safety of the community in all areas of the pool facility and carry out rescues as required.
  • Assist the Swimming Pool Officer in the preparation of pool activities in a professional manner to ensure high-quality service delivery.
  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness, hygiene, and safety across the facility.
  • Support opening and closing procedures and ensure the security of the premises.

Operational Responsibilities

  • Report for duty at least 15 minutes prior to the assigned shift.
  • Maintain vigilant surveillance of pool areas at all times.
  • Respond promptly and effectively to emergencies, including performing rescues and administering first aid/CPR.
  • Ensure compliance with Pool Safe Operating Procedures.
  • Inspect pool equipment regularly and report any faults or maintenance issues.
  • Verify user access through membership cards or payment verification.
  • Assist in organising and facilitating sports activities and events, including the setup and dismantling of equipment.
  • Conduct routine checks of safety equipment (rescue aids, alarms, etc.)
  • Ensure all equipment is stored safely and appropriately after use.
  • Maintain accurate records of daily pool usage, where required.
  • Provide courteous and professional service to all facility users. · Engage with all facility users in a professional and courteous manner, promote a positive image of the facility, and deliver high-quality customer service.
  • Availability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
Knowledge & Skills
  • Must be qualified and have experience as a Pool Lifeguard.
  • Certified Lifeguard with valid CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Sound knowledge of pool safety standards and emergency response procedures.
  • Proficiency in lifeguarding, surveillance and rescue techniques
  • Strong observation and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and act effectively under pressure.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to follow instructions and maintain basic records.

Qualifications
  • FA (Intermediate) or an equivalent qualification from a recognised educational board.
  • Certified First Aider with valid CPR certification.
Experience
  • At least 03 years of experience in a similar role, with prior work as a lifeguard or swimming coach.
