Job Purpose

The Data Analyst will play a critical role in supporting the Office of Student Affairs (OSA) by collecting, managing, analyzing, visualizing and reporting data to inform strategic decision-making for various domains. This role is ideal for a proactive individual who excels in data-driven environments and is excited to spearhead the upgradation of a comprehensive recruiter/student database management system. The successful candidate will also lead efforts in survey creation and analysis, student data analysis, program enhancements, and perform advanced data visualizations and statistical analysis.

Job Description

1. Data Collection and Automation:

  • Develop and implement automated data pipelines and collection methods (forms, surveys, dashboards).
  • Optimize workflows with automation tools (Airtable automations, Fillout, Notion, n8n, etc.) to reduce manual processes
  • Establish documentation for processes and ensure reproducibility for future team members

2. Data Analysis and Insights:

  • Collect, process, and analyze data from various sources, including surveys, academic records, placement data, and institutional databases, to generate actionable insights.
  • Monitor and analyze trends in student data over time, using time series analysis and other statistical methods to support strategic planning and decision-making.
  • Conduct statistical analyses, including hypothesis testing, to validate findings and support program/project enhancements.

3. Data Visualization and Reporting:

  • Build dashboards (Excel, Power BI, Airtable, etc.) that present real-time insights for internal staff and leadership.
  • Translate technical data into accessible visuals and narratives for non-technical stakeholders.
  • Support presentations, official reports, and external partner communication with well-designed visuals and metrics.

4. Database Development and Management:

  • Design, maintain, and continuously enhance centralized databases for various domains (e.g. students, alumni, faculty, university events, etc.)
  • Ensure data integrity, standardization, and governance and implement automated workflows.

5. Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Work closely with IT, database specialists, program managers, and other departments to ensure data systems and analyses meet organizational needs.
  • Engage with stakeholders at all levels to understand data requirements, present findings, and support data-driven decision-making across the Office of Student Affairs.

6. Project Leadership:

  • Spearhead key data projects, such as the development of new data systems or large-scale analyses, ensuring timely and successful completion.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of data processes, methodologies, and project outcomes to ensure transparency and facilitate knowledge sharing.

7. Continuous Processes Improvement: 

  • Continuously seek opportunities to enhance technical skills, stay current with industry trends, and apply new knowledge to improve data analysis and management practices.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline and/or automate data processes, enhance data quality, and improve the efficiency and effectiveness of data-related tasks.

8. Ethical Data Handling: 

  • Ensure that all data handling practices comply with relevant data privacy laws and institutional policies, particularly in relation to sensitive student data.
  • Promote the ethical use of data within the Office of Student Affairs, ensuring that data is used responsibly to support student success and institutional goals.
Required Skills

Technical Expertise:

  • Advanced proficiency in Excel (pivot tables, advanced formulas), SQL, and data visualization tools (Power BI or Tableau).
  • Working knowledge of Python or R for statistical analysis and automation.
  • Strong experience in data cleaning, survey analysis, and database management (e.g., Airtable, Oracle, SAS, or SPSS).
  • Working knowledge of automations, survey development, and possibly AI integrations to reduce manual data collection processes.

Analytical & Strategic Mindset:

  • Ability to translate complex datasets into dashboards, visual stories, and actionable insights that inform student affairs strategies.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify institutional trends and propose evidence-based interventions.

Communication & Collaboration:

  • Skilled in presenting technical findings in clear, accessible ways to non-technical audiences.
  • Experience engaging with cross-functional teams (IT, academic staff, program managers) to define data needs and deliver outcomes.

Ethics & Data Governance:

  • Commitment to confidentiality and integrity in handling sensitive student and other stakeholders’ data.
  • Familiarity with data privacy regulations and institutional policies.

Qualification
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Business/Data Analytics, or a related field.
  • Desirable: Master’s degree preferred
Experience
  • At least 2 years of relevant experience
  • Desirable: Previous analytical experience working in Higher Education

Tools:

  • Proficiency in SQL, Excel, Power BI, and Canva
  • Familiarity with Airtable, Oracle Analytics, Tableau, R, SAS, Python, and SPSS is a plus
